AN EXPERIENCED AEROSPACE SUPPLIER

Hydra-Electric Company’s direction for over 55 years has been to provide its global customers with advanced electro-mechanical solutions for the monitoring and control of pressurized operating systems.

Since 1948, Hydra-Electric has designed, developed and manufactured high performance pressure, temperature, liquid flow, air speed and altitude sensing switches for commercial, military and aerospace applications. Hydra-Electric pressure switches can be used in gage, differential, vacuum, altitude and airspeed applications and on hydraulic, anti-ice, pneumatic, lube oil, fuel, potable water or cryogenic systems. Other products include thermally operated (temperature) switches, liquid flow switches and aneroid operated altitude valves for aircraft turbine engine gearbox and sump pressurization.

Hydra-Electric switches have been used on hundreds of critical aerospace programs. In the 1950’s, Hydra-Electric switches were used on the first major jets such as the P80, F86, F100, F104, B52 and B707; in the 1960’s on the X15, F4, DC8, DC9 and most NASA space flights (including the Apollo moon missions); and since 1970 on thousands of additional global military and commercial aerospace applications. Today, Hydra-Electric switches are widely used on military, commercial, business jet and helicopter operating systems; turboprop, turboshaft, turbofan and rocket engines; weapons systems, ships and numerous industrial and commercial applications. DESIGN EXCELLENCE

Hydra-Electric pioneered the negative rate disc spring design that is today’s standard for most aerospace pressure, temperature and liquid flow switch requirements. This unique application, in all Hydra-Electric switches, is well suited for the most difficult aerospace functions.

The disc spring is at rest until the pressure actuation point is reached, when it snaps into action. It snaps back when the deactuation pressure point is reached. The benefits are that, unlike other pressure sensing devices, the negative rate disc spring does not “trace” fluctuating pressures and set points stay set, even under harsh ambient conditions. Therefore, contact chatter, premature fatigue and other common switch complaints are eliminated.

Hydra-Electric is committed to continual product improvement on existing and new products by utilizing the latest design, material and process technologies. Capabilities include rapid prototyping and development testing on all new designs. In-house qualification testing is also available for certification of Hydra-Electric switches on new programs.

Located in Burbank, California, Hydra-Electric Co’s manufacturing facility is ISO 9001, AS 9000 and FAA Certified. It also operates an FAA-Certified Repair Station (FAA No. AC3R366L).
