Prototype Machinist
Overview
A Conventional and CNC Machinist that works from blueprints, rough sketches, and verbal instructions to fabricate a variety of complex machined components. Performs non-repetitive assignments of a complex and difficult nature, involving the setup and operation of a wide variety of machine tools, such as lathe, mill, grinder, drill press, hand tools and CNCs. Knows the working qualities of a wide variety of materials including aluminum, stainless steel, brass and other materials.
Type of Position: Temporary to Hire
Hourly Rate: $25.00 – $40.00
Duties and Responsibilities
- Studies specifications, such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions and visualizes product to determine materials required and machines to be used to fabricate parts
- Computer dimensions, plans layout, and determines assembly method and sequence of operations
- Works with Engineering team to determine best possible machining methods
- Sets up and operates machine tools, such as lathes, milling machines and grinders to fabricate parts and verifies conformance of machined parts to specifications
- Verifies dimensions, alignments and clearances using measuring instruments, such as dial indicators, gauge blocks, thickness gauges, and micrometers
- May examine previously used tools, jigs, fixtures and designs and modify parts
- Assists Manufacturing Engineering in design and development of production jigs and fixtures
- Performs other related duties as required and assigned
Education and Experience
- High School diploma required
- 5 years related to high volume production Machine Shop experience
- Aerospace or manufacturing experience preferred
- Ability to demonstrate hands-on capability with programming and machine
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills, both oral and written
- Proven ability to adapt to fluctuating work assignments and fast paced environments
- Detail-oriented with sound judgment, great follow-through and initiative
- Demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment, proactive, and work independently
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
