Laser Welder
Overview
The Laser Welding Technician is responsible for performing various operations and types of welds utilizing the laser welding machine. Operations will be performed to ship product on time and to the current quality expectations.
Type of Position: Temporary – 3 Months
Hourly Rate: $18.00 – $20.00
Duties and Responsibilities
Laser Welding Technician Level I
- Performs loading and unloading of units with correct fixing, alignment and program as described on the traveler
- Stamps on traveler for welding operation completion
- Able to detect major defects of welds by performing a basic visual inspection
- Perform documented reworks on major weld defects as necessary
- Starts and stops programs on the laser welding machine
- Loads and downloads program file within the MDI software
- Performs to cleaning operations pre and post weld operations
- Performs regular maintenance on Laser Welding Fixtures and mounting equipment
- Performs other duties as required and assigned
Laser Welding Technician Level II (in addition to Laser Welding Technician Level I)
- Performs visual inspection of all welds against internal welding standards and AWS 17.1 requirements
- Reads and interprets schematic drawings of sensors and switches to perform new set up and alignments on the welder
- Performs alignment / centering of chuck on head stock and live center on tail stock for new setups
- Performs weld sample cutting and records weld sample measurements
- Tracks and records information for quality records
- AWS Certification
Laser Welding / Engineering Technician (in addition to Laser Welding Technician Level II)
- Performs Weld inspection operations for quality
- Resolves day-to-day welding issues and document solutions with engineering reports
- Submits ECR for improving programs and fixtures
- Programs for new codes in Gcode for IPG Fiber Laser machine to develop new products and for production improvements
- Assists Manufacturing Engineers with revisions and improvements to manufacturing methods and procedures
- Supports engineering activities such as testing, modification, fabrication of welds and assembly of prototype electro-mechanical assemblies
- Modifies and/or creates an existing production tooling
- Provides technical support for equipment installation, set-up, and troubleshooting
- Troubleshooting pneumatic circuits, electrical, welding equipment
- Team member training of new and existing manufacturing process
- Identifies and troubleshoots process, material, or equipment problems to minimize down time and recommend solutions to Manufacturing Engineering
Education and Experience
- High School diploma required
- Minimum 3+ years progressive experience in Laser Welding
- Experience inspecting per AWS 17.1
- Expected to read and comprehend process documentation including Bills of Materials, Travelers and Assembly drawings
- Expected to read and comprehend Data sheets applying laser welding
- Basic understanding of electrical components
- Basic understanding of SDS and other Material Data sheets
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
