Hydra-Electric Introduces New Sensor for High Line Pressure Low Differential Pressure at Farnborough International Airshow

Aerospace innovator expands product line with sensing technology that improves fuel and maintenance efficiencies for fuel flow control and filter applications.

Burbank, CA – July 11, 2016 — Hydra-Electric Company, a provider of breakthrough technology in sensors and switches for the aerospace industry, announced that it will be introducing a new transducer design for high line pressure low differential pressure. The Company will be showcasing this and other solutions at the 2016 Farnborough International Airshow, where it is exhibiting in Hall 4, Stand E-61.

This new design allows for the reading of full line pressure and provides a low range differential output, all in a single unit. Because this single new sensor replaces what was previously accomplished by two units, it results in reduced space, reduced weight and improved fuel efficiency.

With existing technology, aircraft filters (for fuel, oil, hydraulic, or air) are generally changed after a certain amount of flight hours regardless of whether or not it is required, leaning on the side of conservatism. By contrast, Hydra-Electric’s new design measures the drop of pressure across the filter along with the measure of line pressure. A clean filter will have little drop, whereas a dirty filter will have a larger drop. The sensor allows the system to monitor the filter as it gradually gets dirtier and to predict when it will need to be changed along with verification of system pressure.

“Unlike differential pressure sensors based on older technology, Hydra-Electric’s patent-pending solution senses small ranges of differential pressure with high levels of line pressure, and senses them more accurately,” said Bob Guziak, Director of Sensor Engineering at Hydra-Electric. “It provides an added control of uncontrolled parameters.”

“This new high line pressure, low differential pressure sensor can help our customers and end users meet important goals,” remarked Tim Burmood, Director of Sales. “These include requirements for improved fuel efficiencies, reduced weight, needed space, and savings in maintenance costs.”

Hydra-Electric is currently accepting RFIs for its high line pressure low differential pressure sensor design. Like Hydra-Electric’s other current offerings of transducer products, the newest addition provides for linear accuracy over the entire pressure and temperature spectrum. These products also allow the ability to tailor the sensor to any operating parameter (e.g., accuracy, sensitivity, output format, input/output impedance, amplified vs. non-amplified, etc.).

About Hydra-Electric

Hydra-Electric is a trusted provider of breakthrough technology in sensors and switches in the aerospace industry. Its proven solutions include: pressure, temperature and multi-function sensors; and pressure, temperature and liquid flow switches. Hydra’s high performance sensing technologies are able to address problems which were previously thought to be unsolvable, including: pressure-spike damage, pump ripple, high-speed impulses, burst diaphragms, and broken wire bonds to name a few.

The Company has been an innovator in the aerospace industry since 1948 when it introduced the Negative Rate Disc Spring design that remains the global standard today for aerospace pressure switches. Hydra-Electric’s products are found in demanding military and commercial applications, including fixed and rotary wing aircraft, missiles, space launch platforms, ships and submarines, armored vehicles and UCAVs.
